If money wasn't an issue, what profession would you choose to do, if you had to stop writing?

neil-gaiman:

I would take up writing for pleasure.

I assumed you already did, and the money was just a bonus. There is obvious love in your works

Absolutely. But my current profession is that of a professional writer. I wouldn't be allowed to do that any more. So I would have to become someone who writes for pleasure alone.

Hey Neil!

I know you've been working on The Sandman and GOs2, but do you think you're going to be writing any more books soon? I'm really looking forward to more content of yours!

Until then, can't wait for Aziraphale and Crowley to return.

-Mars

(Huge fan of your work by the way!! )

I've got to write one more set of scripts and then I'm back to books.

archaeos asked:

Hi Neil,

Wondering if you could lend me some writing advice. What do you do if you have characters you love and a setting you find intriguing, but you feel like your plot is weak and flimsy? Is there a way to salvage all the work you've done, or should a writer just pull the trigger, kill your darlings, that sort of thing? (It doesn't help that I'm trying to write a ghost story without ghosts, but that's another story.) Thanks for everything :-)

- Em

I'd probably stop and think about the story.

lazysatyr asked:

This is out of nowhere but.. What's your favorite Billy Martin/Poppy Z. Brite book? He is one of my favorite authors and im sad he's kinda given up writing fiction.

I loved the Liquor series the most. I guess I think of Poppy as someone who wrote fiction and Billy as someone who doesn't. If ever he does I'd love to read it, but I never pine for what we don't have.

theowlhousefanboy asked:

I know you're not, umm, *interested* in Star Wars as a whole, but hear me out: in the Legends continuity video game simply known as Star Wars: Rebellion, there's actually a star system known as "Neelgaimon" in the game, and I think it's a loving shout out to you, what with the Sandman comics and Neverwhere (the game was made in the 90s, by the way). Care to say your opinions for it?

It's where the Sand Mines are.

If memory serves there was also Gayman Neeloid, the musician who wrote The Sound of Her Wings.

unlitcandles asked:

Hi Neil,

I just wanted to let you know that I just started reading Sandman for the first time, largely due to your enthusiasm and hype for the show. I'm enjoying it so much, I can't put it down. I'm just wrapping up Dream Country and I literally biked over to my local bookstore to buy the next couple just before they closed. I know i am late to this party, but I'm having a great time and I just wanted to tell you that. Thank you!

Anyone who wasn't reading Sandman when the first issue came out at the end of 1988 thinks they are late to the party.

Don't worry. The party started a long time ago and remains in full swing.
